When shooting stars were expected to be visible in the night sky, I found myself waking up in the middle of the night.
Hooray!
I’ll shuffle onto the porch to take a look up.
Argh.
Clouds, clouds. Not a star in sight.
The next night I shuffle outside again, waking with ease once more in the middle of the night.
Fog.
Darn.
The next thought enters…to see a shooting star, be a shooting star!
How many of us allow life to inform us from outside?
Do we wait for permission to experiment with life?
Do we live in a box we’re unaware of?
This happened to me.
A number of years ago, I awoke to the idea that limits I was living within were ones I could expand.
I was allowing old structures within to hold me hostage to how I acted and reacted in the moment.
To shine as the stars we are, we need to awaken.
We need to stretch the limits of our boxes, try new behaviors, open to new possibilities waiting beyond the edges of our experiences.
Last night, I picked up a friend to go to a music venue in town to hear a singer/songwriter I know.
The Phoenix Lounge in Brevard, NC is decorated in comfy upholstered furniture, as well as with a bar and more traditional tables.
My friend and I engaged with fun and interesting folks lounging in the cozy area, including a new woman in town who was a hoot and a half. Sassy, smart, joy-filled.
I laughed so much…seriously enjoying myself more than I had in a while.
This morning I realized that I’d stretched my box in a new way by going out on a Friday night to hear music.
Sweet.
I’m a shooting star in training having the ride of my life!
Are you ready to expand a limiting box you’re at home in?
Is it time to stretch into a new way of being in the world, letting yourself shine?
May you find a way into being a shooting star, dear friend.
