Rescuing the Indian corn from further attacks by squirrels and birds, Ben harvested a metaphor.
In the colorful array, I see us – all varieties of beauty shining as we’re able, caring for ourselves, and doing the best we can at any given time.
Raise your hand if you’ve deepened or loosened the ways you address your personal care.
It can depend a lot on how much we have going on, how conscious we are, and more, can’t it?
In the missing kernels, I see internal and external distractions, leaving us crunched, frazzled, or ignoring deeper needs.
I see unhealthy habits. I see expectations from family members that we be a certain way.
What do you see?
Are you missing lots of kernels? Is it time to tweak the way you care for yourself?
Take some time to journal if you’re called to do that, and then return.

Saturday morning, I ventured into the Oprah/OWN site to see what’s happening, and I discovered one of Oprah’s best, earlier shows.
She interviewed Deepak Chopra about his 1993 book Ageless Body, Timeless Mind.
Deepak talked with such ease and logic, backed by medical evidence, about reducing the toxicity in our lives. He named resentments, food, thoughts, relationships, environment…
All of these things and more drain our energy, accelerating the disease and aging process.
My thoughts went to the toxicity in my family of origin. I thought about those I know with diseases who’ve allowed food and relationship toxins into their lives.
I felt gratitude that I’ve been lead to healthier and healthier habits.
Truly, I’ve traveled far, from someone who was clueless about our body’s needs for water and the idea of being grounded, to begin.
I definitely wasn’t living a holistic life of nurturing my body, mind, and spirit. I was overly focused on the spiritual….not quite tuned into the body.
Now I usually honor my body’s gentle signals, plus offer my sweet physique some overdue love and attention.
Are we present beneath the shower spray? YES.
Do we stretch more regularly? YES.
Did we do our triceps lifts today? On my way.
How about you?
Where is your body’s care on the long list of all you care for in your life?
Could you love a neglected toe today?
Is it time to caress your sore elbow, telling it how much you love its dear maneuvers?
May you deeply love more and more kernels of your radiant self!
