I love riding carousels where we travel, delighting in each revolution to music perched on a horse gliding up and down.
Giggles arise from a deep place within, my inner child.
What a joy it is when we happen upon a carousel!
We discovered one outside St. Augustine’s Library before I shared my book Designed to SHINE! Read Aloud Rhymes for Any Size Heart with children and parents.
Shown below is Jane’s Carousel, a former Idora Park ride we found on Labor Day in 2019 at Brooklyn’s Bridge Park as we explored after my older son’s wedding.
Carousel’s ignite the kid in me, as well as hula hooping in a sunbeam, blowing bubbles or flying a kite.
Dear one, when’s the last time you played like a child?
When’s the last time you skipped? Played slinky? Smelled Play Doh?
What are you waiting for?
Do you think play is just for kids?
Might you reconsider?
I believe that play is a part of us we can engage with when we choose.
Yes, we can pack bubbles for a hike. We can bring animal crackers to a picnic. We can play jacks whenever we desire.
We get to choose!
We can put down seriousness to pick up a ball.
We can put away files to toss a stone into the creek.
May we remember that playing isn’t only for children.
May we ignite delight by engaging with our inner children.
