Call me crazy to write this.
So be it.
I’m cleaning out and packing, so that we can move up the street, and the idea arose today that I love this part of the process.
Cleaning closets, drawers and cabinets is great, allowing me to release what’s no longer working.
Yes, please.
Let me realize that this jacket I don’t love can go. Let’s pare down the number of Christmas boxes we store. Let me pass books to the library.
Oh!
And the discoveries I run into feel priceless.
Retrieving empty boxes from the garage yesterday, I found additional copies of the books I’ve written. Though they had long stayed in a storage unit in my car for people who’d like to see them, I’d forgotten that months ago my partner removed it when he needed to haul big items.
Plus, staying in because of the pandemic, winter and getting our house ready to move into it, trips with my car out and about where we run into potential readers definitely have been few and far between.
Hooray!
It’s good to know that I have more books, especially when local stores request more to sell, and when we pack the car for our next road trip.
Lifting couch cushions on the weekend to find errant popcorn that Michael had dropped, we found a pair of my reading glasses.
Fun! These are the red glasses you bought for me in June of 2021 on a road trip, Michael. I’d forgotten I owned them and that they’d been missing!
As I noted above, discoveries that occur while cleaning out and packing tend to excite me…running into tender love letters and cards from an earlier relationship, not so much.
Hmm…why am I keeping these?
Likely because they’re well written, loving and warm my heart to recall the sweet years we shared. Thank you, dear soul.

The things we find when we clean are often surprising and the good memories are fun to recall.

Well named, Kelli!
To the joys of moving, right?
I appreciate you in the class we’re in together and your powerful writing;
thank you for taking the time to read this and comment.
