We moved up the street at the end of March into a fixer-upper needing care and attention, including all that grows.
Almost daily, Michael’s fiddling outside, removing vines from trees and bushes as he can. A few days ago, we realized that our Azaleas have begun flowering as June enters, out of season.
Go, Azaleas!
Bloom unencumbered.
I see our blooming Azaleas as a metaphor for our lives, akin to what I recently said in this interview.
We’re born as unique humans.
When parents, neighbors, teachers, and employers build us up while putting us down or say awful things when they do, we might shrink back or become smaller. These comments can turn us into people who don’t speak up or into people who hide.
We stay in the background without voices until we heal beyond our wounds, until we’re uncovered, like the Azaleas, so that we can flower.
May you thrive beyond words that keep you tucked inside.
May you bloom into the light you’re meant to shine.
