This view of a patchwork garden at the North Carolina Arboretum caught my eye on a clear, August morning strolling with a friend.
Today, this photo speaks to me of our lives, how we piece them together in harmony or not.
For instance, long ago, I lived amid a chaotic atmosphere of mail piles, newspapers I hadn’t read, and a list of chores to complete, adding up to a quilt without harmony.
These days, I deeply enjoy what I’ve pieced together after intentionally letting go of many things. I became aware it was time to release the publicist I earlier treasured, who connected me with media appearances; my longtime email stopped working (joy@joyonyourshoulders.com), and after a few days of anxiety about the idea, I realized I’ll surrender. Why would I fight for this email address when it had become overrun by spam?
In earlier years, I awoke to realize I needed to untangle myself from The Publisher’s Clearing House – mailings upon mailings of offers, items for sale, and contests to enter.
Why am I distracting myself in the ways I am? I asked myself.
By untangling ourselves from distractions, we get to streamline our commitments.
What are we committed to?
By committing myself to a few things, my life has become a harmonized patchwork pieced together which works extremely well.
Beyond chaos, rushing, and too much on our plates, we can live into balance, harmony, and days that flow with joy.
We can live into lives steeped in gratitude as we serve others, love ourselves, and touch outward with goodness.
I recommend it.
May I support you on your journey to love your life more?
